A Message from the Pike Place Market Foundation regarding the Market Tiles:
Dating as far back as 1985, nearly 55,000 tiles were laid on the Market floor to honor donors who helped “Care for the Market” during renovation campaigns. These tiles have been the bedrock of Market pride in the community for decades.
After nearly 30 years of carrying millions of visitors throughout the busy marketplace, some of these tiles are cracking and breaking from wear and tear. As needed, tiles are replaced to improve safety and conditions in the Market. We are no longer creating or installing donor tiles in the Market floor.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee named tiles will remain in the Market floor forever. In an effort to continue honoring all of our Care for the Market donors an online honor roll is in development and will be launched by fall 2014.
We have many fond memories behind the Market tiles – and we know you do too! We’re collecting stories to publish along with our virtual honor roll. Please submit and share your Market tile photos and stories here.
Thank you to the thousands of supporters who helped Care for the Market! Your gift lives on as a legacy in preserving the Pike Place Market.
Coming soon! Beginning November 2014 the Market Foundation will embark on a campaign to transform an undeveloped section of the Pike Place Market historic district. At this time we invite you to learn about the development of The Waterfront Entrance of Pike Place Market.
This will be yet another opportunity for our community to become part of the living legacy of Pike Place Market. Stay informed by signing up for news & updates.
